ABOUT ABOUT

Join Studio 1940 for a virtual ZOOM workshop Saturday May 9th from 10-11am.

Kids Painting with Kitchen Tools

Lisa Denham, Artist and Owner of Studio 1940, will lead this Kids' Workshop. Watch your kids get lost in this crazy process! Without the constraints of traditional paintbrushes, imaginations will soar as kids try mark-making with regular kitchen tools like spoons, forks, spatulas, etc! You'll be surprised at how creative they are when new tools are introduced.

Paint on whatever you have around the house: construction paper, cardboard, a pizza box top, or canvas if you have it. We'll use water-based paints like acrylics or tempera - usually available at any dollar store. Try to get a good collection of primary colors, red, blue, yellow as well as white and black. You can get more colors if you want to but those 5 will be enough to make a beautiful picture or two.

You'll also need some paper plates to pour the paint onto, and a roll of paper towels for messes. Start looking around the kitchen (or other rooms) for anything that will make an interesting mark when dipped in paint. Everything is fair game and as long as you wash them right after the workshop, nothing will get messed up. You can keep a small bucket of water nearby for quick washing between colors.

"This is a practice I use in my own art-making sometimes and I am always surprised at the new patterns and prints I can make with simple tools I find around the house."   -Lisa

This 1-hour workshop is the first in a series of Kids Workshops: Look for more to come! Once you register you will get a popup message with ZOOM Meeting information.
