ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for a 10-week introductory oil painting workshop on Tuesdays at 7:30-10:00 pm from January 21st to March 24th. This workshop will be led by artist and PAFA Alumni Quin Stone.

A talented painter, Quin believes there is beauty in everything but only few can appreciate the beauty of the ordinary. For him this leads to seemingly endless possibilities for subject matter. As a fan of the Impressionists and Andy Warhol, Quin has an extensive painting, digital media and fine art screen printing portfolio. See the Photo Gallery below for some of Quin's paintings.

Subject Matter: Students can choose any subject matter they like. In the beginning we recommend working from a picture reference so you can employ some of the tricks of the trade for planning your painting. If you want to work in abstraction or from an idea in your mind it will help to be able to communicate your idea so we can help you manifest it.

Week 1: We'll start the workshop with a basic lesson in color theory & paint mixing followed by a practice painting sesson where we'll test our new color skills. By the end of our first session we will have a plan for our first painting.

Weeks 2-3: Participants can expect to finish a few paintings during this session, depending on how involved your ideas are. The first project will be to work along with Quin from preparing the canvas, sketching the image guidelines and mixing the paint to step-by-step application of the paint. Students will learn some popular painting techniques during this project.

Weeks 4-9:  Students can choose to follow along with Quin on another project or work from their own ideas. Either way, you will have guidance and demonstrations when needed.

Week 10: Finishing touches and class discussion (Admire our work and enjoy some wine & snacks!)

In this Workshop students will learn:

  • Layout Tips and Tricks
  • Composition guidelines
  • Brush demonstrations
  • Color mixing and blending
  • Texture techniques
  • Intro to mediums
  • Discuss popular painters
